A native mobile platform for training and clients

The KOUTCH native mobile app brings trainers and clients together — guided training, daily readiness and a community layer instead of paper plans.

About the client

KOUTCH s. r. o. is a Bratislava company building a platform that connects trainers and athletes across Slovakia and Central Europe. The goal is to replace informal coaching (messages, spreadsheets, paper) with a single place where an athlete finds a trainer and gets a tailored plan.

Starting point

The goal was to build a native mobile app from scratch that connects trainers and athletes in one place, guides an athlete through training step by step, and collects daily body-readiness data, supporting monetization through subscriptions and the sale of training plans.

Challenges

Developing the app, we tackled several key challenges.

  • Two very different audiences in one app

An athlete needs a simple, motivating experience; a trainer needs analytical insight and content-management tools — both groups need to feel the app is "theirs."

  • Live guided training

Stepping through exercise → video → set → timer → result logging has to stay smooth even on poor gym Wi-Fi, with the ability to pause without losing an in-progress workout.

  • Meaningful analytics from simple inputs

Overload risk and ACWR need to be derived from a daily Hooper questionnaire and logged workouts without it feeling like "science for scientists."

  • Community and monetization without distraction

The social layer and paid model have to complement the app's core purpose, not overshadow it.

Our approach

We built a native app in Expo/React Native with a dark, "premium fitness" design and connected it to a Laravel backend. At its core is the training module: plan → workout session → exercise blocks → individual sets logged with weight, reps and duration.

  • Guided training as a sequential flow with a rest timer and haptic feedback
  • A daily Hooper questionnaire translated into a readiness score and a 7-day trend
  • ACWR and other load metrics for overload-risk alerts
  • A community layer — posts, blogs, events, a leaderboard and an achievement system
  • Direct messaging between trainer and client
  • The koutch.com marketplace — finding a trainer by specialization and price, selling ready-made plans
Process
1

Concept and UX for two audiences

We defined separate flows for the athlete and the trainer so both would feel the app is "theirs."

2

UI design

We designed a dark, premium fitness look with glass cards and a single strong accent color.

3

Mobile app and backend development

We implemented the native app in Expo/React Native and a Laravel backend with a Filament admin panel for trainers.

4

Launch and distribution

We deployed the app via EAS Build to the App Store and Google Play, bilingually (SK/EN, with Czech prepared).

Results

KOUTCH replaces fragmented communication over WhatsApp, Excel and paper with a single app, where a trainer tracks clients' readiness and load and an athlete trains through a step-by-step guided workout. Among its first users is a professional athlete.
